Tuckernuck almost never has a sale. That’s exactly why I watch for the two a year they do — the early-year sample sale and the big September Friends & Family one. If you’re here, you’re in luck: the sale was running through Thursday, September 24, with Tuckernuck offering 15% off orders of $250+ and 20% off $500+ with code FAMILY. Here’s what I’d actually put in the cart, based on years of buying from them.

Why this sale is worth the wait
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Tuckernuck is my first stop when I need a dress for something that matters. A company trip, an awards dinner, a birthday that needs one good dress. I own more of their dresses than I can comfortably admit, and most of them are the kind I reach for without thinking — which, as a capsule-wardrobe person, is the highest compliment I can give a piece.
A few things to know before you shop. The sale’s discount works on many of the bigger-name brands they carry — MOTHER, Pistola, Loeffler Randall and others — which genuinely surprised me. There are some brand exclusions, so check your specific item. And if you’re a taller woman like me (5’9″, long torso, I take XL in most of their dresses), sizing notes below will save you an exchange.
The occasion dresses I keep coming back to
The long-sleeve knit dress. I ordered one for the LTK conference this year and it’s a keeper — I liked the striped cuffs and collar, and there’s a removable bow for the neck if you want it. It fits true to size and is a good length for taller frames. The kind of dress you’d pull out for a work event or a nice dinner without overthinking it.
The green shift dress. One of my favorites from them, full stop. I wore it to an awards night this year and got more compliments than I’ve ever had for one dress. It’s comfortable, and the jewelled collar does the job of a necklace — which means you can wear it with zero accessories and it still looks done. I already have a holiday event planned where it’s going again.
The gingham shirtdress. A long-time favorite of mine, now available in several colors and patterns. Sizing note: it runs generous. If you’re between sizes, order down — you’ll be happier with the fit.
The navy and cream striped dress. I wore this to my mum’s 70th birthday trip last year. Heads-up: it runs big, and I’m still in my XL because I never got to exchange it before we flew. That means if you’re right at a size boundary, the smaller size will fit you properly.
The Jackie dress. One of their best sellers and one of mine — I have it in several colors and patterns. It’s very flattering, and the textured fabric makes it a heavier dress, which I actually like for occasion wear: it holds its shape and doesn’t cling. It has no stretch, so size up if you prefer length over snugness.
Workhorses in rotation
Not every favorite has to be a dress. This short-sleeve blouse is probably the most-worn top I own. I started with the blue and white stripe, then added the black and the blackwatch plaid over the years — apparently I’m committed to looking like I’m about to sail somewhere. Three colorways of the same shape, worn with jeans, with a skirt, with anything you’ve got in a capsule. That’s cost-per-wear thinking: one shape, many outfits, zero wasted money.
The American flag sweater. I bought this one during a sale back when I lived in Omaha, and it’s still one of my favorite pieces. It now comes in navy and a few puff-sleeve versions too, if that’s more your look.
The eyelet skirt. The blue version is gone, but several colors are still fully stocked. I wore one in XL as a cover-up during a trip to Italy — a great use of a skirt that isn’t the main outfit.
The floral top. Sizes are already running low on this one. It’s the perfect kind of fall top — the kind you’d pull out in September and wear straight through to spring layering season.
My Style Formula
Striped or gingham dress + simple flat or heel + one small piece of jewelry = occasion-ready in about five minutes. If you can’t wear a piece at least three ways, ask yourself why you’re buying it. The Jackie dress works with flats for a work day and heels for dinner; the gingham shirtdress works belted or open, with sneakers or sandals. That’s the test I run on everything before it goes in the cart.
Bookmark this for next September — when the Friends & Family sale comes back around, you’ll already know exactly what to grab.
Wear it well — Elise
